For some, the solo life seems to be their comfort zone. For others it can seem deserted and make them feel isolated. Though it may sound gloomy to be “ happy alone”, it really isn’t that bad at all once you truly get to know what it’s like. It doesn’t matter if you are introverted or extroverted. If you learn how to be happy with yourself, then being alone isn’t really that big of a challenge.
Here are a couple of things you can do to get started:
1. Be your own best friend
As cliche as it sounds, it isn’t a bad idea to be your own best friend, provided you’re doing it right. Take yourself out for food, shopping or to the arcade. Keep your mind preoccupied doing the things you enjoy like watching your favourite Netflix show, picking out what you want to wear, reading a good book or whatever it is that feeds your muse. You never know how long you’ve got, so make every moment of it count!
2. Do one good deed everyday
Well, even if you are living the solo life and taking care of yourself, make sure to be a privilege to others who need it. Although you might be happy alone, no harm ever came from doing the needful to someone who was in need of a hand. Whether it’s helping an old lady cross the street, picking up litter or even lending change to the less fortunate, do it. Not only do good deeds always find a roundabout way back to you, but they also give you a chance to spread warmth, light and love which are the things that the world is in need of most. Do one good deed everyday.
3. Be your own boss
Never compromise on the things you want to do most in life. Get out there! Scribble down your goals, trace out a road map and chase your dreams! Dig deeper into your inner passions. Find your purpose. Don’t be afraid to get back up again if you come across a couple of setbacks. In life, no one’s plate is completely clean. Rather than worrying about a terrible turn of events, enjoy the journey you’re on by accepting a few defeats on the way. Believe in your strengths, dedicate yourself, discipline your mind and channel your hard work towards becoming more diligent with each passing day. Trust the process, but above all trust yourself and soon enough, you’ll see that one day you’ll get there, at the right moment, when it’s meant to be.
4. keeping in touch with religion and spirit
Although there are some people out there who are extremely religious while some are hardcore atheists, consider devoting a moment of your time to be in a spiritual environment for a while. It may help you feel enlightened and refreshed. Praying can develop a stronger foundation in faith, which when valiant, can be found within yourself. It gives you a chance to be thankful for the little things in your life like the air in your lungs and food on your plate. It makes you feel grateful, which is another important affair to keep oneself satisfied and happy in life.
5. Get physical:
Engage in physical workouts. Not only does it keep you fit, but playing a couple of sports, practicing gymnastics or being fond of aerobics can help you steer clear of mental illnesses. It can help you feel productive in terms of taking care of your health and provides a better insight of well being. After all, getting physical seems like a better (and more fun) thing to do than just sitting on your armchair all day and flipping channels.
6. Taking a phone break
You know how you take those casual coffee breaks when you’re working? At times it’s good to take a phone break as well. You probably might’ve heard it a billion times already when people tell you not to compare yourself to others, especially on social media. Although it is a source of entertainment, too much of it can be worthless, draining and exhausting. Listen to music instead, enjoy the breeze in a pleasant evening or soak in a bubble bath. Get off your couch, put your adventure hat on and go exploring!
7. Dodge being in denial
One of the most important things for one to do in order to be happy alone is to acknowledge that there is a huge difference between being lonely and feeling happy alone. To truly enjoy being alone, you need to look at situations with a different angle. Sit back, observe closely and listen intently as every new day unfolds on it’s own with unique surprises. Naturally you’ll feel more connected to the environment you’re bound to. Listen to your inner voice and though it may be difficult to always blossom positively, remember that the best thing you can do is to be kind to yourself. Eventually you’ll find everything you’re looking for.
