The steps are pretty simple but the only issue comes up when you are trying to follow them. All competitive exams are the same, they involve you in combat with another person for a position that you desire. NEET exam is easy as compare to JEE Mains & Advance but competition is still tough which requires right strategy and preparation.
There are many factors that come into play when it comes down to the final minute of the exam, but lets look on the steps and the path we are supposed to follow to build the confidence of victory within you. Now you may wonder what is the truth about all that you read here, well I am a medical student that came through NEET and I wanted to tell you about the things that I did and the things I wish I had done while NEET preparation.
Some Key Points To Prepare For NEET
What is your reason for trying to get through NEET?
This is a question I want all of the future NEET takers to ask themselves. Are you doing to it because your parents told you to? Is it your goal to become a future medico? One thing that you should keep in mind is that there is still very very long way to go for you to become a qualified and reputable doctor. So keep in mind that when you choose to take up NEET you are ready to agree all the fine-print that comes with it.
Never to early to start preparation.
Once you have decided to give your mind and soul for what is to come, then its time to start. NEET does not involve a lot complexities or outside the box thinking, in contrast to other competitive exams like AIIMS or JEE MAINS & ADVANCED, rather it focuses on the students’ ability to recall what they have studied. So you can start reading about the topics that are targeted questions of NEET.
Coaching.
I personally was under a rigorous integrated coaching institute for the two years before my NEET, so I would personally recommend to join a coaching center as they provide you with additional material to study from and also help you in planning out your study schedule. Of course coaching is not a necessity to all but you must be able to keep yourself focused and keep grinding with self motivation (unfortunately this was not my strength).
For those who are interested to join a coaching institute the benefits you might receive are-
- continuous follow up on your preparation,
- weekly practice to help you overcome the fear of taking the exam,
- topic revision with important topics highlighted, and much more.
- I had written so many practice tests that even the final exam didn’t scare me or hinder my judgement.
Study over and over again
Practice makes man perfect. This saying fits perfectly those preparing for NEET, the questions in the exams are mostly from the NCERT textbook you studied for the last two years. You have to study the same words and lines over and over again till you can recite the lines like the lyrics of a song. Like literally.
At the end of your preparation you should be able to recite the lines from the book, then again I don’t mean all the lines in thee textbook. There are lines that carry a lot of gravity in case of questions that appear in the exam, so target your preparation such that you are thorough with these topics.
Target Biology.
You must be aware of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and their weightage in terms of marks (180, 180, 360 respectively). You must have obviously noticed the importance and the heavy weightage biology carries, reasonably your primary target of preparation should be biology.
The questions that are asked in bio are pretty much direct lines from the NCERT textbook. Take a look through previous year papers and you will see how they form a question from the exact lines in the textbook. This takes out the stress of trying to figure out what they are even talking about, the only thing you need to do is study the topics of importance over and over again.
Previous year papers.
You can unravel all the type of questions they ask by going through previous year papers, to be frank many of the questions are repeated as it is or formed in a different way or given from the same topic.
Most of the time, the previous year papers are enough of a study material, but only if you know how to use them. Note the topics that they concentrate on and understand how they come to the final answer. Think like your enemy to overcome them. Try to morph your way of thinking into the way the examiners prepare questions to answer them correctly.
Reference books.
The reference books I used were the materials provided to me by the coaching center and ‘MTG Previous Year NEET Questions’, summated with one book for each subject to solve higher level questions. I recommend the NCERT exemplar book for all the questions, the questions in these books are very similar to those appearing on the final NEET paper.
More is always the better.
To be thorough with your preparation solve and answer as many questions as you can, its okay if you solved it before, do it again and again. At the end of your day, you should have the satisfaction of solving and answering innumerable questions.
Dedication.
NEET preparation is a long process consisting of rigorous practice and many sacrifices for two years, at times you may feel like giving up but picking yourself up from the dirt is what helps you move ahead of the rest. Do not compare your progress with others in class rather try to move ahead of them by studying in ways that you feel comfortable and effective.
The preparation methods differ from person to person, but keep these points in your head while preparing to be able to make an effective and productive preparation. I can not guarantee that you will be able to crack NEET with the above mentioned notes, but I can tell you that it will help boost your level preparation. Good luck to all the future NEET aspirants!
